Central U.S. Interoperability (CUSIOP)
What is Central US Interoperability (CUSIOP)?
With toll tag interoperability drivers can enjoy the convenience of toll roads when traveling out of state without worrying about having to buy another toll tag or getting a fine for using a toll road without paying. The Central US Interoperability allows drivers in Texas and Kansas to use toll roads with a single toll account. Drivers must have a toll tag issued by one the following toll agencies: Texas Department of Transportation, North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA), Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA) or Kansas Turnpike Authority (KTA).
Why is the Central US Interoperability program starting now?
On July 6, 2012, the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21) was signed into law. Under MAP-21, state tolling agencies with roadways receiving federal funds are required to make their electronic toll payment systems compatible with each other. The toll authorities within Texas have been interoperable for more than a decade. The expansion to include Kansas is one of the first steps to accomplish the goal of national toll interoperability.
What tags will be allowed on Texas toll roads?
In addition to TxTag, drivers on Texas toll roads can now pay with one of these toll tags: TollTag (NTTA), EZ TAG (HCTRA), and K-TAG (Kansas).
Will additional states be added later?
Toll agencies throughout the country continue to work together in an effort for all systems to be compatible.
What will my statement look like?
Your TxTag statement will have the same look as it does today. If you use a toll road in Kansas, your statement will include the name of the out-of-state toll road in the list of your toll transactions for the month.
Who is going to send me my statements?
Statements will be sent by the toll authority that issued your toll tag. For example, you will receive a statement from TxTag if you have a TxTag account, but it will include toll charges for travel throughout Texas and in Kansas.
