Toll Roads in Texas

Grand Parkway, Segment E

The new 15-mile, four-lane Segment E of the Grand Parkway (also known as SH 99) provides nonstop travel between I-10 and U.S. 290 on the west side of Houston.

This all-electronic toll road linking Katy and Cypress is part of a planned 185-mile Grand Parkway outer loop circling the Houston metro region. This new segment extends Segment D, which is located south of I-10 and is operated by the Fort Bend Grand Parkway Toll Road Authority. Construction and planning updates for all segments of the Grand Parkway can be found here.

Drivers must have a TxTag, EZ TAG, or TollTag account to pay tolls on Segment E. There are no tollbooths. Need a tag? Sign up for TxTag here.

Grand Parkway (SH 99) Updates

Segment E, between I-10 and 290, is expected to open December 21, 2013. It’s free through January 31, 2014. Take a test drive and see how much time you can save. After the free period, you’ll need a TxTag, EZ TAG, or TollTag to pay tolls.

Grand Parkway Toll Rates

The cost of tolls on the Grand Parkway depends on the type of vehicle you drive and where you get on and off the toll road. Eventually there will be 10 intersections along Segment E from which drivers can enter and exit, in addition to the connections at I-10 and U.S. 290. TxTag, EZ TAG, and TollTag are accepted on the Grand Parkway.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I pay my tolls with cash?

No. All tolls are collected electronically on the Grand Parkway between I-10 and U.S. 290, so there is no stopping to pay at a tollbooth. You must have a prepaid toll account. All three toll tags used in Texas (TxTag, EZ TAG, and TollTag) are accepted. You can open a TxTag account online or by calling 888-468-9824.

What happens if I don’t have a tag to pay tolls?

The only way to pay tolls on Segment E of the Grand Parkway is with a TxTag, EZ TAG, or TollTag. If you do not have a prepaid tag – or do not have enough money in your toll account to cover the cost of your tolls – you will receive a Notice of Toll Violation with a $5.00 fee for each toll charge. Drivers who fail to pay violation notices on time are subject to collection fees and court fines that can add up to $350 per violation. Habitual toll violators are subject to additional penalties.

Do I have to pay if someone else was driving my car on the toll road?

Yes. Under Texas law, owners of vehicles are responsible for any toll charges or violations, regardless of who was driving at the time. Notices of Toll Violation will be sent to the registered owner of the vehicle.

When are the other planned segments of the Grand Parkway set to open?

Segment E from I-10 to U.S. 290 is the newest section of the planned 185-mile Grand Parkway loop. Construction on segments F-1, F-2, and G began in July 2013 and is scheduled for completion in late 2015. Once open to traffic, that 38-mile portion will link Segment E at U.S. 290 to U.S. 59 north of Houston. Information about those three segments can be found at grandparkway99.com. Construction and planning updates on all 11 Grand Parkway segments can be found on the Grand Parkway Association website.
